A Look at Distance Learning Education

By Lester Lee

Are you a college student or soon to be college student? Do you not want to sit in a classroom learning all day? Then, distance learning education is the thing for you. With so many opportunities and programs that are advancing everyday, there is no reason for you not to join in.

Distance learning education is a great thing for many people. Be it you have a job and a family and have no time to go back to college full time, you are physically unable to go to college, or you just do not want to spend all that time in college.

The first thing you should do when you decide on a distance learning program is to check and see if the program is accredited. Although many state and private institutions are offering distance learning programs, not all of these programs are accredited. You should as far as possible choose a program that is accredited and this requirement should not be compromised at all.

If you have never looked into distance learning before you will be surprised how similar it is to regular college, minus the sitting in the classroom. As a matter of fact, you are able to get pretty much every level of degree offered at any institutions on higher level learning.

Below is a list of common distance learning programs:

Associates Degree- The amount of variety in these degrees available online from accredited institutions is astonishing. You are able to get an associates degree in business to general studies and even computers. This form of degree is great for getting you employed and also is a great place to start when trying to get higher level degrees.

Bachelors Degree- By this degree the variety offered is smaller but still big for distance learning. If you are looking to get a bachelors degree in education and computer science to criminal justice and psychology, you are able to do it with distance learning.

Doctorates Degree- By the time you get to this degree you are running very slim on the variety you are offered. The most common doctorates programs offered are in the business and finance fields. There are of course other options but these are few and you should definitely check if the accreditation is in order.

It is important for you to know that the distance learning education courses are college-level classes meaning you should be self-disciplined and mentally ready to read, take tests, do reports, research, etc. It is not any easier than a college class - the only difference is that you study at home.

Distance learning education is perfect for those who want to go to college but are either unable to or do not want to sit in a classroom.
